Make sure your read this Wii Softmod Guide from start to finish before your begin to make sure you understand every step. If there is something you don’t understand please post your question in the comments section below before proceeding.
This Wii Softmod Guide will:
Update your System Menu to at least 4.2 (if needed)

Install BootMii to allow you to Backup your Wii’s NAND.
Install Priiloader to Block Disc Updates and more.
Update all Channels to the latest versions.

Install a USB Loader to allow loading of games from USB Hard Drive (optional)
Nintendo Wii running System Menu 4.3 or Below (will not work on Wii Mini or Wii U)
SD Card a Minimum of 1gb in Size formatted in FAT32.
The ModMii Installer to get your Softmod Files.
Computer Running Microsoft Windows (I have tested on Win XP and Win 7)
Softmod your Nintendo Wii:
Download the latest version of the ModMii Installer from HERE and install it on your Windows computer.
Once installed the ModMii Skin Application should run, so start by typing in “I Agree” in the text box and clicking next.
Once at the ModMii Main Menu you want to choose the first option “ModMii Wizard + Guide” then click next.
You will then be asked if this is the first time you have Softmodded your Wii, either way select YES even if your Wii has been previously Softmodded. This will ensure your Wii gets updated with all the latest and necessary system files.
The next screen will ask you to choose your System Menu version, you can check this in the top right of your Wii’s Settings Menu.
You will then need to select your Wii’s Region, for example if your System Menu version is 4.3e then select “e” but if your System Menu version is 4.3u select “u” it really is that simple.
If you are running System Menu 4.3 you now need to choose which exploit, select “Wilbrand” and enter your Wii’s Mac Address on the next screen which can be found by going to Settings > Internet > Console Information on your Wii.
You now need to choose which System Menu you want to be on after the Softmod process is complete. If you are already on System Menu 4.3 then stay on 4.3, if your System Menu is 4.2 or below select 4.2.
The next screen will ask you what channels you want to install, just select all of them as this will update them to the latest versions.
You now get the option to Theme your Wii’s System Menu, this is totally up to you but I will be sticking to the Standard White System Menu.
You will now be asked if you want to Setup a USB Loader, this allows you to run games from an external USB Hard Drive. So if you are wanting to do this or plan on doing it in the future select yes and choose FAT32 as the file system.
If you selected yes to the USB Loader option you now have to choose which USB Loader you want to use, I have always used WiiFlow but you can select either one of them or both if you want to test both of them.
The next screen will ask you where to save your Softmod Files, I just leave it as the default location but make sure you take a note of it so you can find the folder.
You will now be shown a summery of the options you selected, make sure they are correct and choose finish.
ModMii will now start downloading the necessary files (it may take a while) and create an Instruction Guide based on the options you have selected, I suggest printing the guide for future reference.
Once the files have finished downloading copy the contents of the “COPY_TO_SD” folder to the root of the SD Card.
Follow the Instruction Guide ModMii Generate for you.
Within an hour your Wii should be Softmodded.
